Pure Protein is one of my favorite protein bar companies. I have been eating their products for quite a long time. As I continue to taste and review their protein bars, I normally have a bit of a bias. So far, I haven’t tasted a bad flavor yet, and the texture of their products are always good. The bar that I will taste in this post is a different however. This review is of the Pure Protein Plus Cookies & Cream Protein Bar.
I have yet to review a Pure Protein Plus bar, which is a product different from the rest of their other bars. The Pure Protein Plus series of bars are a bit more nutritionally sound than the normal line of bars.
That is not to say that the other protein bars from their regular line is not nutritious. They are, and most taste great. But the Plus line of bars boast more fiber, and claim to have no artificial sweeteners, are GMO free and gluten free. So let’s check out the ingredients.
List Of Ingredients
Protein Blend (Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), White Chocolate Flavored Chunks (Whey Protein Concentrate, Cocoa Butter, Erythritol, Butter Fat, Sunflower Lecithin, Stevia Leaf Extract), Isomalto-Oligosaccharides, Ground Almonds, Soluble Corn Fiber, Water, Chicory Root Fiber, Whey Protein Cocoa Crisps (Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate. Tapioca Starch, Cocoa [processed with alkali], Calcium Carbonate, Sunflower Lecithin), Glycerin, Canola Oil, Erythritol, Natural Flavors, Cocoa (processed with alkali), Sea Salt, Stevia Leaf Extract.
The ingredients list for this particular bar is a bit different from other bars by Pure Protein. They are a bit cleaner, and you can contrast and compare ingredients of a Pure Protein Chocolate Peanut Caramel Bar to see the differences between the two lines of bars here.
Important Nutrition Facts
Serving Size – 1 Bar, Calories 210, Total Fat 8g, Saturated Fat 2.5g, Trans Fat 0g, Cholesterol 20mg, Sodium 110mg, Potassium 110mg, Total Carbohydrate 24g, Dietary Fiber 15g, Sugars 2g, Sugar Alcohol 5g, Protein 20g.
The main difference in the nutrition in this particular bar as opposed to others in the Pure Protein line, is the presence of dietary fiber. I like the fact that this bar is high in fiber, but it also has sugar alcohols, so keep that in mind if they cause you issue. There is also Erythritol and Stevia in this bar, so choose accordingly.
My Honest Review
There was no noticeable smell when I first opened the packaging. Unlike most of the other Pure Protein bars that Iv’e tried, the Cookies & Cream Plus bar looks more like a traditional protein bar.
It is solid with no layering. The bar was very sticky and somewhat gummy, so much so, that it was actually somewhat difficult opening the package. The texture was soft and moist, with a bit of a crunch to it, but not much.
There is a bit of a protein taste, but not enough to take away from the creamy, cookie flavor. The bar is not chalky of grainy at all, but it is sticky and messy to eat. However, there are little crisps as well as nice sized white chocolate chunks which gives it a satisfying flavor with a small crunch.
I am drinking a bottle of water with the bar, and I would suggest this to go with it. I like the taste of this bar a lot, and I don’t concern myself with the gummy texture.
As for the other regular Pure Protein bars, this bar is much different in texture and overall consistency, but it tastes good and there is 20g of Protein as well a good source of fiber. This is a good thing, and this would make a perfect protein bar for snacking. It is not a meal replacement. And I suggest a try, it would well worth it.
