Today I am reviewing a limited edition Pure Protein Maple Caramel Protein Bar. I am not sure how long these bars will be available, or if they will eventually become a regular product, but when I saw these on Amazon, I had to purchase a small box of six.
Maple is one of my favorite flavors, and I was surprised to find it as a flavor for a protein bar. The ingredients list is lengthy, but it doesn’t have many more ingredients than the other Pure Protein bars that I have tried, so let’s look at what we have.
List Of Ingredients
Protein Blend (Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), Yogurt Coating (Maltitol, Fractionated Palm Kernal Oil, Calcium Caseinate, Milk Protein Concentrate, Nonfat Dry Milk, Nonfat Yogurt Powder [Nonfat Dry Milk, Lactic Acid], Fractionated Palm Oil, Soy Lecithin [emulsifier], Natural Flavor), Caramel Layer (Maltitol Syrup, Nonfat Dry Milk, Milk Protein Concentrate, Cream [Cream, Milk, Nonfat Milk, Cellulose Gel, Milk Solids, Cellulose Gum], Fractionated Palm Kernell Oil, Butter, Water, Disodium Phosphate, Caramel [added for color], Natural Flavor, Soy Lecithin, Carrageenan), Hydrolyzed Collagen, Glycerin, Toffee Pieces (Sugar, Butter, Almonds, Soy Lecithin [emulsifier], Salt), Water, Maltitol Syrup, Natural Flavors, Canola Oil (tocopherols added to protect flavor), Almond Butter, Soy Lecithin, Chocolate Flavored Coating (Fractionated Palm Oil, Maltitol, Fractionated Palm Kernel Oil, Whey Protein Concentrate, Cocoa Powder [processed with alkali], Calcium Carbonate, Soy Lecithin [emulsifier], Natural Flavors [annatto and turmeric added for color], Sucralose), Peanut Flour, Sucralose.
As you can see, can see the list is long. The ingredients are far from clean. However, I won’t be eating these on a daily basis, such as some other Pure Protein bars, like Chocolate Deluxe and Chocolate Peanut Butter. So I don’t mind the amount of ingredients when it comes to the Maple Caramel.

My Honest Review
When I first opened the packaging, I didn’t get much of a smell at all. The taste is that of mostly caramel, but there is a slight maple taste, and the flavor is not too strong or too sweet.
The texture starts out a bit dry, but very quickly becomes moist and chewy. There seems to have a white coating around the bar, possibly yogurt, and there is a delicious layer of caramel on top, just underneath the white coating.
It then turns into a cake like consistency with a sugary layer under that. There is virtually no crunch. The bar tastes good, I like the texture and the mild maple flavor is just perfect.
There is very little protein taste and the bar eats like a candy bar. It is good for snacking, and is not a meal replacement. I would definitely recommend a try, and it may not be around long term, so if you want to taste the Maple Caramel, get it while it’s around. Good protein bar.
