Pure Protein Chewy Chocolate Chip Review

I love protein bars, and been eating them for years and years. They are good in three scenarios. To use as a meal replacement, to eat as a snack, and to get protein intake to help build muscle in accordance with a workout program. This review will be about the Pure Protein Chewy Chocolate Chip bar. I am a bit biased, but this is one of my favorites!

INGREDIENTS

Protein Blend (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Chocolate Flavored Coating (Maltitol, Fractionated Palm Kernal Oil, Whey Protein Concentrate, Cocoa [processed with alkali], Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavors, Soy Lecithin, Sucralose), Hydrolyzed Collagen, Glycerin, Soy Crisps (Soy Protein Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Salt), Milk Chocolate Drops (Sugar, Whole Milk Powder, Chocolate Liquor, Cocoa Butter, Milk Fat, Soy Lecithin, Natural Vanilla Flavor), Maltitol Syrup, Water, Maltodextrin, Soy Protein Isolate, Canola Oil, Natural Flavors, Cocoa Powder, Sucralose, Xanthan Gum, Peanut Flour, Soy Lecithin, Almond Butter.

For those with food allergies, be aware that this bar contains milk, soy, peanut, and tree nut (almond) ingredients. As with a lot of these protein bars, keep in mind that this particular bar contains sugar alcohols, which can cause gastrointestinal discomfort. I would not eat these bars in excess. I usually have one a day. If your system can take more, go for it.

With every review, I will make sure that the ingredients are clearly displayed for you to peruse, so you know just what is in a particular protein bar.

Some Important Nutrition Facts

Serving size: 1 Bar, Calories Per Serving: 200, Calories From Fat 50, Total Fat 5g, Saturated Fat 3g, Trans Fat 0g, Cholesterol 15mg, Sodium 110mg, Total Carbohydrate 18g, Dietary Fiber 2g, Sugars 3g, Sugar Alcohol 5g, Protein 20g. This bar is gluten free.

This particular protein bar has 20g of protein, which is what I generally like to consume in a bar, although there will be others that will have less protein such as 10g and others that have 30g or more. It depends on what you want to accomplish when eating protein bars.

I would also suggest drinking 8oz of water when eating a protein bar, or whatever beverage you like to consume.

My Honest Review

I really like this protein bar, and it is one that I eat regularly (as opposed to when I am taste testing a product). For those that like a protein bar to be a bit like eating a candy bar, this is a product I’d suggest you try. You shouldn’t get a strong protein taste that many people dislike.

The bar doesn’t have a lot of sugar, but it does have sugar alcohol, which I stated before to be careful of. The temptation is there for me to want to eat two or three at a time, figuring the more protein the better. The fact that the bar tastes like a candy bar doesn’t help. It is great that they taste so good. But resist the urge to overindulge. I usually eat one of these bars a day, but never more than two.

The Pure Protein brand is always in the kitchen cupboard in my house. They are a great snack, and if you want a quick after workout shot of protein, you might want to consider trying this.

The texture of this bar is smooth and chocolaty, but not overly chocolaty. There is a thin layer of chocolate around the bar, with a chewy nougat throughout, and little chocolate chips (crisps) which give it just a slight crunch when you take a bite. As you chew, the crisp gives way to a chewy smoothness.

If you like the flavor of a mild milk chocolate, with a chewy finish, this could be one you like. Don’t forget the slight crunch as well.

This bar would be good to have as a snack, or after a workout. It is not a big bar, and with 200 calories, it is perfect for this. I wouldn’t say this is a meal replacement bar. It is worth a try, and satisfying with a great taste.

Pure Protein products are products of Canada, and are manufactured for Worldwide Sport Nutritional Supplements, Inc. out of Bayport, New York. Check them out, and there will be more reviews of other protein bar flavors by them forthcoming.
