It seems that PowerBar has been around for ever. They are the first protein bars that I ate as far back as college, which is quite a while ago. I always liked the taste and texture of the old PowerBar, and I remember eating them all the time in the college library while I was studying. Now there all different kinds of PowerBars, as opposed to the few flavors that were around many years ago. In this post, I will start out my PowerBar tasting journey on this site with the PROTEIN PLUS Vanilla Protein Bar.
So many of the protein bars out there in the market are chocolate based, and this is one of the ones that are strictly vanilla, and I am looking forward to the change. Let’s take a look at what’s in this protein bar.
List Of Ingredients
Trisource Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate, Whey Protein Isolate), Moltitol Syrup, Coating (Sugar, Fractionated Palm Kernal Oil, Whey, Nonfat Milk, Cultured Whey, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla), Oligofructose (From Chicory Root), Fructose, Nonfat Milk, Cane Invert Syrup, Water, High Oleic Canola Oil, And Less Than 2% of: Soy Lecithin, Ground Almonds, Partially Defatted Peanut Flour, Natural Flavor.
When glancing at the front of the wrapper, the fact that there are almond and peanut ingredients are not readily visible, so keep this in mind if you have a nut allergy.

My Honest Review
As I open the wrapper, I really don’t get any smell to speak of. The bar is completely white, with a delicious, creamy coating around the bar. It is not dry, but it does not get moist as I continue to chew. It is chewy and very fresh, but it is not very moist.
The bar has no crunch at all, it is very smooth and creamy tasting. The center of the bar has the consistency of soft, vanilla cake. The flavor is very simple, not complex with layers of flavors, such as my favorite protein bar, the FITCRUNCH Cookies and Cream Protein Bar.
It basically has a mild vanilla flavor, with just a hint of a protein taste, but it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of eating the bar. I am drinking a bottle of water as I eat the bar, and I would suggest you do the same if you decide to try it.
This bar packs 20g protein, so I would eat it either before or after a workout to help build muscle. It is enjoyable enough that I would eat it as an in-between meal snack for a sweet, filling, protein pick me up.
This bar does not have the consistency of chewy nugat, like the PowerBars that I remember eating in college, but I like the flavor and soft consistency. I would definitely eat this protein bar again, and I would suggest giving it a try for yourself.
