MET-Rx BIG 100 Peanut Butter Pretzel Meal Replacement Bar Review

In this review, I will give my opinion on another MET-Rx protein bar. This particular bar is a meal replacement, as is stated on the packaging. This is another product in the extensive MET-Rx line of protein products which I plan on reviewing in upcoming posts. Today I will review the MET-Rx BIG 100 Peanut Butter Pretzel Meal Replacement Bar.MET-Rx BIG 100 Peanut Butter Pretzel Meal Replacement Bar

It looks delicious, and has a long list of ingredients. It is packed with protein, and should provide a good option for incorporating good nutrition with a workout program to build muscle, or just simply as a quick go to meal if you are in a hurry and don’t have time to cook or stop by a restaurant.

List Of Ingredients

Metamyocyn PBP Protein Blend (Soy Crisps [Soy Protein Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Salt], Whey Protein Isolate, Casein, Soy Protein Isolate, Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate, Egg White, L-Glutamine), Peanut Butter Flavored Coating (Sugar, Fractionated Palm Kernal Oil, Partly Defatted Peanut Flour, Sodium Caseinate, Soy Lecithin, Salt, Natural Flavor), Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Enriched Wheat Flour (Wheat Starch, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Glycerin, Rolled Oats, Invert Evaporated Cane Syrup, Peanuts, Water, Partially Defatted Peanut Flour, Sugar, Oligofructose, Peanut Butter (Peanuts), Fractionated Palm Kernal Oil, Nonfat Milk, Natural Flavor, Vitamin and Mineral Blend (Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Ferric Orthophosphate, dl-Alpha, Tocopheryl Acetate, Niacinamide, Zinc Oxide, Copper Gluconate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Pyridoxine Hydrocloride, Riboflavin, Thiamin Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Potassium Iodide, Cyanocobalamin), Fructose, Salt, Caramel Color, Soy Lecithin, Whey Protein Concentrate, Mono- and Diglycerides, Unsweetened Chocolate, Vegetable Oil (Corn, Canola, Cottonseed and/or Soybean), Heavy Cream (Cream, Milk Cellulose Gel, Milk Solids, Carrageenan, Cellulose Gum), Butter (Cream, Salt, Annatto Color), Tocopherols, Sodium Citrate, Carrageenan, Sodium Bicarbonate, Maltodextrin, Sodium Phosphate, Yeast, Dextrose.

In full disclosure, if you are watching your sugar intake, you may want to skip this protein bar. There is quite a few ingredients that are just another word for sugar, so keep that in mind.

This is not a low calorie, low sugar protein bar. But if you are not watching sugar intake, and are looking to add a decent amount of protein to your diet, you might want to try this, just consume in moderation.

Important Nutrition Facts

Serving Size – 1 Bar, Calories 410, Total Fat 12g, Saturated Fat 5g, Trans Fat 0g, Cholesterol 0mg, Sodium 510mg, Potassium 210mg, Total Carbohydrate 47g, Dietary Fiber 3g, Sugars 28g, Protein 30g.

As you can see, this protein bar is a monster, and I mean that in a good way, but it depends on how you look at it. There is a lot of sugar and carbs, but there are also vitamins and minerals, so you have to weigh the good, with the not so good. As for me, I am looking for a protein bar that tastes good, so let’s dig in.

My Honest Review

First, let me suggest that you grab a beverage if you decide to try this protein bar. I have a bottle of spring water here by my laptop. I notice that the bar is very thick and quite heavy for it’s size.

When I open the wrapper, I get a big peanut butter smell that smells really tasty. This bar has a lot of flavors and textures. There is a layer of peanut butter drizzle over pretzel pieces, as well as whole, small pretzels.MET-Rx BIG 100 Peanut Butter Pretzel Meal Replacement Bar

Next is a layer of gooey caramel, as well as a filling with the consistency of a rice crispy treat. There is a layer of peanut butter coating on the bottom of the bar. The flavors are complex, with the perfect taste of saltiness from the pretzel, and the sweetness from the peanut butter coating and caramel.

The bar is very filling and satisfying. I am hard-pressed to taste or smell any protein flavor at all, and there is a nice crunchiness. The bar isn’t dry, but it is not moist either.

If I was blind folded, I would not be able to tell this was a high protein, meal replacement bar. It eats like a crunchy, salty and sweet candy bar. I would highly recommend this protein bar for both it’s flavor and high protein content.

I have reviewed other MET-Rx bars, such as the Protein Plus Peanut Butter Crisp and the Chocolate Chocolate Chunk so far, and they are all rich and decadent.

If you are a bodybuilder in need of a decent amount of protein, and sugar is not a concern, I would try this bar. Should you want a quick meal replacement and don’t care about sugar, I would suggest giving this bar a try.

However, if you on a sugar restrictive diet, or are watching your weight, but not big into getting regular exercise. you might want to skip this one. I love the flavor of this bar, and would eat more of them in moderation.
